The internship search, as it is

The good ones close early. Finding them is a second job.

Internships at the companies that recruit at Tech go up on their own career sites first, a few at a time, all year. By the time one reaches a feed, a GroupMe or a career fair, the first round of interviews is often already set.

Refreshing thirty career sites by hand, hoping something new went up.

Applying to roles you can't take: PhD only, a clearance you can't get, the wrong graduation year.

Guessing which companies actually hire from Virginia Tech.

Hearing about a posting from a group chat, a week after it went up.

It's not you. It's the search.

How Alum works

Straight from the source, sorted for you.

No reposts, no scraped job boards, no sponsored listings. Just the companies' own postings, and what you need to decide.

Step 1

Every hour, we check the career sites directly.

Greenhouse, Workday, Lever, Ashby, SmartRecruiters and the big companies' own sites: over a hundred employers, pulled hourly. Every posting shows when the company put it up and how long after that it reached Alum, so you can check us.

Step 2

Only the ones you can apply to.

Tell Alum your graduation year, degree and work status once. It reads each posting's fine print, the graduation window, PhD-only, citizenship, security clearance, sponsorship, GPA, and hides what rules you out. What's left shows exactly why it fits.

    Step 3

    Apply where Hokies already are.

Every company shows how many Virginia Tech grads it hired for their first job, and from which majors, from tens of thousands of placements in VT's First Destination Report. Save a search as a radar and Alum tells you when something new lands in it.

    Questions

    Good to know

    Is Alum free?

Yes. Browsing, filters, radars, the tracker and interview notes are free. There's no paid tier holding back the useful part.

Where do the internships come from?

From each company's own career site, checked every hour: the boards they post to first (Greenhouse, Workday, Lever, Ashby, SmartRecruiters) and the big companies' own systems. Alum keeps internships, co-ops and new-grad roles in tech, engineering and business tracks, in the US.

    How fresh is "fresh"?

Every posting shows the time the company published it and how long after that it showed up on Alum. When a company only publishes the day, not the time, Alum says so instead of guessing.

How does Alum know who can apply?

It reads each posting for the rules that rule people out: graduation window, "must return to school", PhD or grad-only, US citizenship, security clearance, no visa sponsorship, and minimum GPA. When a posting doesn't say, Alum doesn't guess, and it always shows the rule next to the role so you can check.

Where do the "Hokies hired" numbers come from?

Virginia Tech's First Destination Report: graduates' self-reported first jobs, by employer and major. Alum matches those employers to the companies on the board.

    What happens to my information?

Without an account, your profile and saved internships never leave your device. If you sign in with your vt.edu email, they sync to your account so you can use them anywhere. A resume you upload to fill in your profile is read once and not stored.

Is this run by Virginia Tech?

No. Alum is built by Hokies, independently. It isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Virginia Tech.
